Jocelyn is a San Francisco native who discovered yoga in 2008. She was initially motivated to practice yoga in order to stay active and relieve stress. However, her journey was transformed when she discovered the benefits of yoga for scoliosis with Elise Browning Miller and again after she completed a 200 hour teacher training with Yoga Tree. Jocelyn teaches a mindful hatha alignment class which is accessible to new practitioners. In addition, she also teaches a quicker paced vinyasa flow class which links breath to movement. Jocelyn focuses on guiding students to use the breath during asana practice to expand awareness. As students calm the mind, they become empowered to act with intention and be a source of light for those around them.
Yoga is the union between mind, body, and spirit. The physical practice of yoga requires an acceptance of ourselves exactly as we are in the present moment, but also a drive to continuously challenge ourselves to learn and grow. Yoga as a mental practice requires conscious balance between effort and ease. Yoga as a spiritual practice is love, gratitude, and compassion.
I teach a mindful hatha flow. As the breath is our most visceral connection to our life force, it is the focus of my practice. As we link breath to movement in asana practice, we expand our awareness of our bodies and its capabilities. We calm the mind and empower ourselves to act with intention.
I also love practicing Acroyoga as a way to challenge perceived limitations and to connect with others in play. So whether yoga looks like sitting with your legs up the wall at home, getting sweaty at a studio, or hanging upside down on someone's feet, I invite students of all levels to be curious with their practice.
